Google has been working a lot on a chatbot named Gemini, which uses generative AI. This chatbot is now part of many Google services, like Workspace tools.
On the Google app for iOS devices, there’s a new switch that lets you choose between normal search and using Gemini.
However, this switch isn’t on the Android version of the Google app yet. But, it looks like it might be added soon, based on some clues found in a version of the app that’s still being worked on.
AssembleDebug, known for revealing app updates early, discovered the new switch in the Android Google app. They worked together with PiunikaWeb on this report.
The exact version of the Google app with this switch isn’t mentioned, but pictures and videos suggest it will function like the one on iOS. Google has also added some cool animations when changing from Search to Gemini, adding a nice detail.

Updated shortcuts/buttons
New versions of some buttons, like Gallery, Translate, Homework, and Sing, are also coming. These were first seen last month. Some people using the latest test versions of the Google app already have these buttons.
Regarding the new switch, PiunikaWeb thinks it might be a few weeks or even months before it appears in the Android Google app.
However, those trying out the beta version of the app should see it eventually, though I wasn’t able to find it myself.
Even though the Android Google app doesn’t yet have the switch for moving between Search and Gemini, Android users can still get to the chatbot through its own separate app.
On the other hand, iPhone users can only access Gemini through the Google app at the moment. Still, adding this switch to the Google app on Android is good news.
It makes it simple for users to choose between the usual Search with its Discover feed and the advanced AI chatbot features that Gemini offers.
What we think?
I think adding the Gemini switch to the Android Google app will be really cool. It’ll make it easy to switch between regular search and the Gemini chatbot.
The animations sound fun, too. I’m excited to try the new buttons like Gallery and Translate.
It might take a while before everyone gets it, but I’m looking forward to it. It’s great that Android users will have a simple way to use Gemini.
