Google’s Gemini LLM is available in three versions: Ultra, Pro, and Nano. The Pixel 8 uses Gemini Nano, and the Galaxy S24 series uses Gemini Pro.
OnePlus and Oppo, both owned by BBK, will also use Gemini in their devices. However, they will use Gemini 1.0 Ultra, the most powerful version of Google’s AI model.
OnePlus and Oppo plan to be the first in the smartphone industry to introduce AI features using Gemini Ultra “later this year.” By incorporating Google’s most powerful LLM, phones from OnePlus and Oppo are expected to provide impressive and helpful AI capabilities.
In addition to the AI model, OnePlus and Oppo will incorporate Google’s Cloud AI products into their phones.
This integration will bring many AI features, similar to those on the Galaxy S24 and Pixel 8, such as news and audio summarization, to their devices.
The phones will also include generative AI features, enabling users to produce content for social media.
Today’s statement from the BBK-owned companies did not specify which phones would support the new features.
OnePlus mentioned that a complete list of compatible devices and features will be released later in 2024.
It is expected that Gemini Ultra will be limited to the top-tier and premium models from OnePlus and Oppo introduced this year, such as the OnePlus 12, 12R, and Oppo Find X7 Ultra.
The collaboration with Google could lead to OnePlus and Oppo phones having the same AI features as those found on the Pixel 8 and Galaxy S24. These include generative photo editing, Chat Assist, and other capabilities.
What we think?
I think OnePlus and Oppo phones will get really smart with Google’s Gemini Ultra AI. They will do things like summarize news and help make cool social media content.
The new features will probably be on expensive models like the OnePlus 12. It sounds exciting because the phones will do a lot more with AI, just like the newest Galaxy and Pixel phones.
