Google is said to be releasing another OTA update for some Pixel users due to issues with the first patch in April.

9to5Google reports that the company has begun distributing a second April patch for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 7 series, as well as the Pixel Fold.

Users had complained about cell service problems on their Pixels after the recent April update. It appears help has arrived quickly for devices on Verizon’s network, as the company has released information on this additional update.

Pixel Fold

The Pixel 8 and Pixel 7 series will receive version AP1A.240405.002.B1, and Pixel Fold users will get update with version AP1A.240405.002.A2.

Verizon mentions that this update targets “performance enhancements for LTE calls/data and network problems.” The update is quite small, with a size of about 7MB.

Google has made the factory and OTA images for the new patch available. Users will notice the addition labeled as “B1” or “A2,” based on their device.

Users went on Reddit after one person who contacted Google Support got a reply regarding the issues. The company acknowledged that a patch for Pixel 7 and newer models was coming.

Still, one user experienced cellular issues after manually installing the update, mentioning missed calls two days later. This appears to be a rare problem, as others who got the update through Verizon are not facing any issues.

According to 9to5, AT&T and Google Fi customers are still awaiting the second patch. However, these users have the option to manually install the patch using Google’s official OTA/factory image files if they choose to do so.

What we think?

Google launched its initial April 2024 security update at the beginning of the month, which included many fixes. The company targeted 28 “general” security issues, with 25 specifically for Pixel devices.

The update notes pointed out two security vulnerabilities that Google thought were actively being exploited, encouraging Pixel users to update quickly.
