Microsoft has introduced an official Copilot bot in the Telegram messaging app. Users can search, ask questions, and chat with the AI chatbot.
Copilot for Telegram is in beta but free for users on mobile or desktop. Users can chat with Copilot for Telegram like any regular conversation in the app. It is an official Microsoft bot, identified by the checkmark and username @CopilotOfficialBot.
Many AI companies now offer access to their LLMs through messaging apps. Meta has added Meta AI to Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram messaging. You can also chat with Gemini in Google Messages on Android phones.
To use Copilot for Telegram, I first searched for Copilot Bot. It then requested my Telegram phone number to share with Microsoft. This felt strange since I used Telegram to talk to privacy-focused crypto founders, and the app is known for its strict privacy policies.
Copilot for Telegram is similar to other Copilots but has some limits. It only handles text requests and cannot create images.
It can search the internet for information. Microsoft says in a blog post that Copilot for Telegram can suggest movies, create workout routines, help with coding, translate conversations, and find quick facts online. There is a daily limit of 30 exchanges between the user and Copilot.
Microsoft has been expanding its Copilots, integrating the AI assistant into many of its products. There are Copilots for business apps, PCs with built-in Copilots, and Copilot for Microsoft 365. A paid version is available for $20 a month, offering access to the latest AI models.
